I was busy chatting when automatically I looked into the balcony and here is what I found.
Yesss.. on the very first day..
I dont know many birds by name. Is this one dove? The first thought when i spotted it was'shit I am not wearing glasses and the camera is on the floor. If I get up from the couch, will the bird fly away??' So I sat quietly without moving for a minute coz it was looking here and there to ensure there is no trap and the last thing I wanted to happen was it to fly back getting scared right then.
After some time, when i found the bird sitting comfortably, I lifted off the laptop in slow motion, picked up the camera and went to the glass door in order to take a pic. The brave bird didnt move.. I cant believe that it kept sitting there for total 15 minutes. The pictures i clicked have time stamp which tells me so.
She ate from the tray first and then picked up somethings from the soil into the beak. When it started fiddling with the table rose leaves, i told myself i wont let it do that in the second visit. But for today anything n everything was fine.
So you can see how thrilled I am... now only if I had a better camera.. sigh!

There goes all your seeds. :)))Beautiful!
Reminded me of the incident when Birds ate my daughter's Sunflower seeds and she vowed never to talk to any birds ever. :D

btw its a very lame effort at photography... u need training !!!
bah... get some sort of proper focus so we can atleast recognise...
I ll train you for free... thats if you dont kill me for this comment... :D :D
Yay! So cool. You keep doing fun stuff girl. And take care, if you attract birds, they are likely to prey on your plants too. :D
lovely visitors u have had :)
The visitor sure is Dove...peace
1st day that also a dove ... not so good photography or it was a plastic bird ..lol
so this is what was being discussed on Twitter..now i understood
:)
It seemed like a pigeon coz. of bad lighting. I guess, the problem is you're shooting from the dark into light. Try to avoid the outside light from your frame if possible, then the camera will adjust light relative to the surroundings. If you've got D-Lighting, turn it on!
wow!! :)
nice pics Tara... and yea, you do have some beautiful visitors :) :)
finally one landed in your balcony....
good good
Really nice...Happy hosting!
Hey Tara, Yes that does look like a dove. Was it wheatish in color? This bird had once made a nest in my patio and laid eggs, but sigh, couldnt get a shot :-(
BTW what is that plastic thing it is sitting on?
looks like a pigeon-ish dove to me.. im not great with birds either..the pictures arent that bad.. i had a very similar situation soem days back.. spotted wat looked like a migratory bird at the window..was dying to click it.. but as quiet as i thot i was, it flew away at the slightest noise n motion...it was really pretty..quite a rarity in bbay!
Wow!!! Loved how you told this one, had me fascinated...
I keep bajra to attract birds, and love their visits though mostly we get only sparrows, mynas and pigeons, we have had a rare munia and an occasional long beaked beautiful green bee eater :)
Look forward to more such bird stories with pictures :)

@Enchanted: That bird had a cement greyish shade. I think it was dove only.. and that feeder is made out of plastic egg tray that i was abt to throw after putting eggs into the fridge.. just a temp thing, gotta be more creative next time :D
@churningthewordmill(Mandira):I quite understand what you are saying.. wish u luck for next time and may the bird visit you again..
@IHM: Thank you for that sweet note.. I read bajra and sunflower seeds are loved the most by almost all bids.. i will get them soon.
Hope your dove didn't take those coriander seeds sprouts.
Well, any development about the sprouts. Do let me know your success story.
Hi James,
How nice of you to drop in again to check how its going. :)
I just opened the cupboard now looking for it. while i was expecting a thick crop which i dint find, am so glad that the idea worked. there are 15-20 long needle like shoots, yes yellow in color. I have kept it in the balcony where they are getting indirect sunlight. have taken the pic. will post in the coming posts.
Thank you :)
Yeah little incidents like this are so much more fun than the big ones that we keep waiting for(ever). From the background in the photographs... i guess you are either in Delhi or Gurgaon. ;)
Its a pigeon....and a cynic like me will tell u not to bother with this activity coz very soon u'll be looking for ways to shoo them off & they wont go....this is a personal story from a 'tired of shooing them away' resident of Dubai;-D
I have them in the balcony behind my bedrooms & at any given time one of the balconies have eggs with pigeons sitting on them. While it is wonderful to show the kids it get tiresome after a while coz they dirty ur balcony horribly, fight terribly with eachother in the middle of the night scaring u to death & have these insects on them which crawl into our homes & cause rashes & such like;-/
Sorry to be a party pooper but I'm just telling u wht I experienced & am still experiencing.
