Tower of Arabs

...is what it means (in Arabic). Tops in the list of attractions in Dubai. Designed to resemble a billowing sail, Burj Al Arab soars to a height of 321 metres, dominating the Dubai skyline. Built on an artificial island constructed 280 meters offshore, this place is simply individual, inspired, impressive & characterizes itself as the world's first "7-star" property. It has a helipad on it too.

We spent a day at this part of Jumeirah beach that offers a very close view of the architectural splendor. We walked and walked and walked some more, without being bothered of getting tanned. I had seen such blue-green waters only in the pictures earlier. The beaches here are beautiful, pretty clean and not crowded at all. Still there is enough activity around to keep you engaged. See, I love observing people without giving them my intruding looks, so I enjoyed watching them surfing, playing in water, making castles of sand, sunbathing and we also kept taking pictures of everything that caught the eyes.

We had a great morning, followed by lunch @ KFC and we were still not done with our beach love for the day so again went on exploring the beach walking in the opposite direction now. We were so deeply immersed in our conversations that we dint feel fatigued and before we realized we had also ended up promising each other the plan for all out next outings.. i.e we have to experience all the adventure this land offers (Scuba diving, snorkelling, jet skiing, surfing and all other water sports, paragliding, parasailing, hot air balloon, sand dune bashing, desert safari, dolphin stuff and there is much more) what fun! Just a mention is enough to charge the freaks that we are! only miss having some friends with similar interests.. It adds to the adventure when u have company besides the discounts offered to groups on the deals, which is also in my jobless mind :P

Anyways, for now I offer you a sneak peek into the album I uploaded with the pics of the day.
That was our valentines day...

Hope you like browsing through them.

Bloggers galore..

Today I didnt go to the hospital. And owing to my block leave at work, i had ample of time to myself. Mom had asked me to visit the doc to chk why my right hand fingers hv this tingling feeling but since the doc last time suggested that i do neck n shoulder exercises along with some nerve boosting vitamins which i am doing already, i skipped the visit.

Smitten by the blogging bug of late, I was completely into reading some indian blogs on varied subjects today. And it amazes me to see the creativity - both in writing as well as designing the blogs. And to add to this, some bloggers put these interesting widgets (links, info, codes etc) on their sites. I really dont know where to get them from and neither am I a coder to do it myself :(

Amit's friend and colleague who is a wonderful blogger himself helped me with putting a simple but interesting website hit counter on my blog. He is the one who gave me my first and only award in this blog arena, "The Butterfly Award". Thank you dude :). I am yet to figure out how to follow the rules of blog award & will learn that n follow them soon. I also added some quiz results to my page today. It was fun - click on the pic that best describes ur answer to a question and the quiz result reveals something about you. Try for yourself here. I had taken such tests online earlier as well but this time i was interested in getting these codes to put them on my blog..

ok so i was browsing through these blog posts today n while doing so was enjoying their writing style. I noticed many similarities between me n few of them; the difference being - they could so very well put their stories into words and i still struggle.. but the best part is I enjoyed reading them so i think blogging definitely is gonna be my cherished zone for now...

PS: I blogrolled you coz i liked ur page n would love to visit u often, hopefully you dont mind!

To Di, with Love...

To Di with love,

Di, thinking of you
with love on your birthday
and wishing you
everything that brings
you happiness
today and always!

Happy Birthday to you
& hope your day was special
just like you!

beginning with a confession!
When kids, you take things in a different stride. I was born between my elder sister and a younger brother so I felt sandwiched between them. Di being the first child was special to everyone and manu being the youngest (i would add the fact of his being a boy- when i wanted to feel even more frustrated) was the most pampered one; this was my complaint, but today, all of that sounds v silly though innocent. Its not even relevant to comment whether that was right or wrong..
Di was most of the times more sensible than us and we hated when she told us wat to do & what not to. manu and me would therefore gang up against her and make our own plans to corner her whenever possible. Somewhere we still wanted to be like her and follow her in whatever she does, to the extent that we wanted to join her friends when they went out for playing or for picnic- which i guess she never liked.
She had lotsa friends and she was always more creative. Her bday parties were grand, she was highly appreciated by mom's friends also. We could hardly find anything to criticize her. me and di would fight on wanting the same cloths and shoes and hair clip and banlges since we had common sizes and I would like to believe that most of the time it was me who would give up and let it be. I used to pray- "hey god pls arrange to send one of us to hostel so we stay peacefully." but neither of us ever went anywhere.
how come she always does the right thing???????? huh.. I had to share a room with her so the news of her marriage should be the best news but once she got married, i didnt go to that room for months to sleep. Then i realised how much i was missing her and I think i will always admire her. Now i wish to get some time together to catch up on all those moments.. hope god listens this time around!

This post is dedicated to my darling sister, who not being a comp comp person unlike me, am sure would never read this unless I force her to. yday was her bday and I thought of making ths confession. And being good to her, I am not going to reveal her age :)

Love u di.. Cheers!

A peak into our li'l garden!

This is the place where I love spending my free time at. If I am home and not glued to the TV or not trapped in the kitchen or when Amit is not around; you will find me doing just anything here. One of our balconies, yes that is where 40 odd plants of ours have been placed these days. I love them, as they are my babies. Almost each plant has a story behind. Some are bought from the nurseries I saw on our way during the trips, some picked up randomly from our housing area. I even have one or two stolen plants, for it has believed that money plant grows well that way.

As I mention a few of these instances, let me also tell u that I am enjoying the lovely post shower weather otherwise hot n humid Delhi, sitting in my balcony with Amit's brand new hp laptop [too much of show off I know :) but couldn’t contain the joy of it all within] while Amit is busy watching some eng movie he must be watching for 101st time. Anyways, let me tell you what happened when we were coming back from somewhere. A beautiful hill station called 'Bhowali' comes on the way and I asked Amit to stop near a small shop selling plants. Too hurried to chk them out, I didn’t carry anything with me and Amit came along. We saw the diff plants, inquired abt their chances of survival in Delhi's climate and finally decided to take a thorny cactus and two small cute soft cacti. We bargained the prices and asked the fellow to keep them in the car. Amit opened the dicky and helped us put the plants in a way they would reach Delhi safely. Now comes the fun part. After we were done and the dicky was bang closed, we both realized at once that the car keys were there in front of us but inside the dicky on the shelf above the plants :) WTF!! We had locked the car before we came out, all windows rolled up neatly and both of us don’t have anything with us that could lead us into the car (the second set of keys were in my bag, which also was in the car?? That means we were locked outside the car in the mid of nowhere. How we then managed to get help from the local people there to break into the car and reach our next destination was another adventure in itself but we got to know one thing- that our santro's locking system is not that easy for the thieves to crack.. The cactus today is guarding our home [some feng shui I read recently suggest that it is good to have a cactus placed near ur house's entrance but it should not be too close to the door] and the other soft ones are expanding horizontally.

Incidentally, the house we are staying in for last 4 months was one of the few ones I liked particularly because of the Rangoon creeper (Madhumalti/ Cocuisa) loaded with flowers emanating nice fragrance right in front of this balcony of a bedroom. But today that climber isn’t there anymore, after a heavy rain, when it got into a bad shape, our neighbors got it cut n cleared and it doesn’t grow again now :(

I never shy away from planting some new small testers in the emptied curd containers or the takeaway bowls we get when we order food from outside. Once they grow well, they are carefully transplanted into a pot. That reminds me to ask you which pots do you think are good for the plants? The plastic ones or the earthen? Last time when I found 'buy two get one free' offer on plastic pots, I got home three of them and Amit hates them to the core. He likes them natural with mud pots with green algae on them.

I like them in the rooms but not all plants enjoy being in shade all the time so I keep changing the positioning of these plants... other story abt things that happened almost at the beginning of my plant collection season. There is ample of money plant (MP) in our area, every time I would see those overgrown plants, I would tell myself to get up early next morning & pick up few stems for our home. Somehow, I couldn't do that, due to the fear of being caught I guess.. So one evening, while coming back frm work, I saw that aunty outside & gathered courage to talk to her.. Hello aunty, how are you? yes we are new here. I work in so n so company & my husband works at blah n blah! After those necessary exchanges, I told her abt my secret wish of steeling MP from her garden & she started smiling. Beta u shouldn’t have asked me..Just take it without my knowledge :) now how do I do that.. I hv already told her so it won’t be called steeling anymore.. But now I was granted permission to steel :) funny that was. Then next few days, I would go down and get 5-10 stems every morning. I put them in water initially because that is easier to maintain. At that time we had money all over.. I mean money plant dear!.. In the kitchen, on the dining table, on the fridge and even in the bathroom. Now I have put all of it into two parts. One is planted in soil & is growing taller and the other set is nicely placed on the dining table. I hate when their leaves turn yellow though. I also bought one MP but that isn’t doing too good so if u want money, pls go steel it.

And how can I forget that day when I came back with few stolen MP stems and was busy in the balcony, the bell rang, Amit went to chk & came back with a long stem of a different species of MP(darker leaves) surprisingly telling me that it was lying at our doorstep. I also didn’t think much and got busy into what I was doing... suddenly we hear someone saying, "I kept it there." Actually, a gentleman staying across our house had noticed my inclination towards plants and as a token of appreciation, he gave me that stem.. A nice feeling! he keeps praising our plants while going up n down the stairs but last Monday when I found one pot missing from there, I transferred all my plants to the balcony thinking that someone took my plant; only to find out later that this gentleman had shifted that Morpankhi pot to a position where it could get more sunlight as its leaves had started dying. How stupid of me to think like that.

There are more stories and I can go on and on.. Perhaps I will continue this series..Presently I am little bit worried abt these plants.. Tomorrow, if I am not there to care for them, I hope they still keep smiling :) U don’t be heartless to laugh at me on reading this.. Ok?? [:)]
