New members in the family :)

( omlet, cutlet )

( cuddle, puddle)

Dont they look cute and naughty? Sometimes they are energetically at unrest moving up-down, left and right. Then there are moments when they act as sober as they can and swim like they belong to some classy elite society. Gold fish eats a lot so we named them after our favourite eatables. The day I dont find them in their bowls, I know who to suspect.. The man in the house is eyeing on them but he also says, itne se mera kya hoga! So I am hoping they are safe...

Pls welcome, our new housemates!

Why two bowls? Because lady of the house finds it difficult to make choice most of the time. She liked these two at different shops and in the process of making a decent bargain she ended up buying both of them. so we know that its never enough for her love of water and fish.. Shells have been added already, the next she is gonna do is put a water plant in them for natural flora-fauna effect...

secret wish: Seeing the two fish become 3 one fine morning... in each bowl...  :D . Prayers!!

pretty bowls and prettier fish.. we used to have fish at home long back.. n then my parents make a hugeee mistake...they made me in charge of looking after the fish. soon we had no fish only one large empty bowl.needless to say we have never got fish home since.

Thank you Rashmi, Prashanti, Mum Diva & Monika for liking the names :) ,

Thank you all!! looks like fish is loved universally..

but then why do they die so soon?
how often should the water be changed?
how regularly should they be fed?
How do i know they have had enough?
Inspite of changing water, the gold fish kep coming towards the surface to take in bubbles of air in and then throw them out.. Are they playing or they need more oxygen?

I am full of questions on the 3 day of having these members in. I am highly sad too coz Puddle died today morning :( I am reading some stuff on the net now to learn abt fish keeping but any first hand guiding experience is welcome plss..

~in shock, denial, pain, guilt, anger and depression...Tara

Tara ....I have 4 goldfish & 2 other kind.
These goldfish dont live too long....but atleast mine live a minimum of 7 months before something happens:-(
Dont change water everyday & even when u change the water once a week, leave atleast 60%-80% of the original water & add 20%-40% fresh water.
Also collect water from the tap & keep it overnight b4 pouring it in[something to do with reducing the ph level of the water].

There is this site about.com...chk it out, they give good advice.

Find out a bit b4 adding a water plant....coz we had 1 too & the tank got fungus-sed & we asked around & people told us the plant was the reason;-S

cooook it and eat it !!! he he he he....

Thanks Masood, Nancy and Dhiren for the suggestions.. some lovely and some supperb!!
I will pray n hope the rest 3 survive. I have shifted them to a larger bowl and they are doing good so far..

Prashanti :) said...

never give the fish too much .. they will die if u do that coz the food absobs the oxygen in the water.. u just give em a few flakes of the food twice a day and everyday at the same time .. the food shud be eaten in like 3 mins and there shud absolutely be none floating around ! water should be changed preferably every 10 days :)

@Prashanti: Thanks, I am still learning the ways.. but you know they seem to be hungry forever. n that tempts me to give them some flakes.. n they finish it within no time.. does that mean they are hungry or they are bhukkads gulping down everything in sight. they eat their owm poop n throw it back sometimes :(

Even the water gets so dirty every day that i cant see it. I even moved them into a bigger container but no use..

@Pointblank: Thanks so much!! Try with one fish maybe.. if you like you can continue with more...

@CS: sweety, I am super depressed. we are left with just 2 goldfish since today morning :( dunno why the tiger fish died one after the other :( :( I thot the bowl was small for them so trfed them into bigger one also... have no idea what went wrong... sob sob...

I have also heard what Prashanti said above, about not feeding too much... but I am totally clueless, only I have seen they don't seem to live long....

The bowls and the pictures are really beautiful!

mindspace said...

Thanks IHM!! I looked at the beauty of these bowls while buying and only later realized that was the biggest mistake. The size. None of the above noticed or pointed out that the bowls are v small. Only single beta splenden could have survived in them :(

Have learnt so much about fish n its need after loosing cuddle-puddle, Thanks to Lydia and her bro. The other two seem to be at ease at the moment, thankfully.

Dont be sad Tara, you were a novice at "Fish-Maintenance", now you know a bit how it works. We were more than gladly to help you out with your Fish-querries... Yours,Lydia
